It's already got its own page on Wikipedia?!? Reading the article about the golden wolf's presence in Egypt, it makes me wonder if it wasn't the inspiration behind the God Anubis (Anpu) rather than the jackal and if the Ancient Egyptians did actually know it as a wolf and didn't confuse it with the jackal.
